Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary is relocating
Please help us continue to care for the feral that call the sanctuary home by donating this Giving Tuesday
Meet Audie ( it means noble strength) the inspiration for Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary .. 5 yrs ago before the Sanctuary existed someone contacted me about a VERY sick litter of (5) 2 week old kittens that didn't have a momma an 1 was VERY small an seemed to have an issue with her back legs an couldn't walk right .. Well ofcourse I took them in .. I knew as soon as they made it to me they had distemper an were all on deaths door .. I worked thru the night administering meds, fluids an love but unfortunately 4 of them passed ... All EXCEPT the runt with the nerve damage (as we would later diagnose) ... she barely weighed 4oz an was still so sick .. I kept treating her an loving on her day an night an after weeks of care Audie went on to make a full recovery of the distemper .. We would later learn she had nerve damage in both back legs that would be permanent BUT she don't let that stop her from running around like a idiot at 3am with her siblings!! Audie is gonna be 5 in Aug an weighs in at only 5.4lbs .. she is just a petite little thing but has a HUGE personality to make up for it ... It was then that I realized there wasn't anywhere for feral like her to live safely as in the wild she would not have survived.. An this is how Healing Paws came to be .. a 4oz little nugget that had the will an fight to survive deserved somewhere safe to call home 🐱💕
Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary is the ONLY 501c3 Non Profit all feral cat sanctuary that specializes in feral that can no longer live in the wild do to health/ disabilities /behavior issues. Here they live out the remainder of their 9 lives where they are monitored 24/7. We are also HUGE TNR advocates (trap-neuter-release) which is dedicated to humanely reducing the feral and stray cat population in our area. While not all cats will be deemed suitable for adoption as indoor pets, our rescue works to better the lives of all the feral that come into our care.
Sick/injured feral are humanely trapped, evaluated by the rescue, and treated. Once healthy enough they are then taken to the clinic to be TNR'd (spayed/neutered an vaccinated). Our primary goal is to offer care to those feral that would otherwise die in the wild. If it’s determined that they can be we will rehabilitate the animal for adoption. ALL our rescues will have their ear notched when they are fixed. This is so they can be identified as fixed by animal control and other rescues so if they are outside kitties or happen to sneak out if indoor they will not get picked up as a stray feral.
Through the TNR (trap-neuter-release) program, once healthy kitten/cats that can’t be rehabilitated for adoption are either returned to their familiar habitat where they were trapped, are socialized into the colony here at the sanctuary or are adopted out as Barn Kitties to live their lives out doing what they love best ... Hunting. Kittens/cats that are found to have health issues/disabilities are kept here at the sanctuary to live out their remaining 9 lives. TNR also helps to cut down on the many diseases that feral cats can carry and trasmit to each other such as Feline FIV, Feline FeLV, Feline Distemper and Feline Rabies.
Since opening our doors in 2015 we have been able to help over 300 of the local feral that otherwise get ignored and we are home to over 60 feral with ongoing medical issues. Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary are huge advocates for the humane treatment of feral, semi-feral and stray cats. TNR Programs offer a humane solution to the overpopulation of cats in our cities
